New movie Vil Ambu is worth a watch

Vil Ambu is worth a watch
Every decision we take in our life has a direct impact on our future, and also has the power to influence the lives of others. They may be strangers, even people who we may never meet.

This theory of a particular action or incident triggering a chain reaction affecting several lives forms the core of debutant director Ramesh Subramaniam’s Vil Ambu.

The film starts of well with the director introducing two characters from distinctly opposite social backgrounds. Arul (Harish Kalyan) belongs to a middle class family where the focus is on inculcating good values and the importance of education in getting a decent job. Karthik (Sri) has a drunkard father and a mother, who works as a domestic help.

The director efficiently points out the flaws in both these systems. So we have Arul, who has his entire life and career mapped out for him, whereas Karthik is left to fend for himself.

Growing up, Arul has to quash his dreams of becoming a professional photographer and get into the lucrative IT sector to fulfill his father’s wishes.  On the other hand, Karthik becomes a school dropout and make a living selling movie tickets in black.

How their paths cross and how they influence each other’s lives without ever meeting forms the rest of the story.

Director Ramesh Subramaniam has put in a lot of thought and effort in creating an environment that facilitates random meetings between its two protagonists. Though interesting in the beginning, the coincidences just don’t seem to stop. Back and forth, the lives of Arul and Karthik intertwine and after a while, it gets tedious.

Bollywood Ghayal Once Again

Bollywood Ghayal Once Again
Cast: Sunny Deol and Soha Ali Khan
Director: Sunny Deol

Indian action movies have always been compared to the ones from Hollywood and bashed up for lack of quality. Our action is either too over-the-top or so illogical that you just can’t digest it. Sunny Deol’s sequel to Ghayal, addresses that scenario with resounding success. The action sequences in this movie belong in a Luc Besson production. Mind you, just the action alone. The dramatic scenes are hotchpotch. But when the action turns on, it grips you and it keeps on the edge of your seat.
The movie starts off on a bad note. You’re introduced to Sunny Deol’s character of Ajay Mehra years after he’s served his sentence. He rehabilitated but he suffers from mind numbing headaches that are accompanied by surreal X-men like visions you only think Professor Charles Xavier could have. But Sunny paaji has them and it all looks a bit too ridiculous. But these nightmares are supposed to set up his character who’s walking a thin line of sanity and volcanic anger. Nonetheless, he’s now identified as a rebellious media influencer and owner of a newspaper called Satyakam (a nice touch of respect to what’s possibly Dharamendra’s best film ever). His brand of justice is vigilante and underground. You can picture him as a cross between Julian Assange and Hugo Weaving’s V from V For Vendetta. So when a group of teenagers run into trouble with a wealthy industrialist / media baron named Raj Bansal, Ajay steps in to save the day. Here’s when the film picks up pace. Action and thrills take precedence while soppy sentimentality and melodrama is left out completely.

Bollywood Airlift Movie

Bollywood Airlift Movie
STORY: In 1990, Kuwait's invaded by Iraq. Rich Ranjit Katyal can escape with his wife and child - but what happens when Ranjit decides to ensure 1,70,000 Indians also go home?

REVIEW: So, Airlift has one of Akshay Kumar's best performances - along with other sterling acts. Rich Indian-origin businessman Ranjit Katyal (Akshay) loves profits and dislikes the idea of India. But Ranjit's golden life in the desert crumbles when Iraqi forces invade Kuwait. Suddenly, people are savagely shot in the streets, houses looted, buildings blown up, tanks taking over, choppers hovering maliciously amidst minarets.

Iraqi Major Halaf (Inaamulhaq) offers Ranjit and his wife Amrita (Nimrat) buy million-dollar tickets to leave with their child. But Ranjit's also looking after thousands of Indians, desperate as the Embassy exits Kuwait.

What happens when Ranjit takes responsibility for getting 1,70,000 Indians home?

Airlift features Akshay at his best - based on real-life characters, there's little khiladi-wala swag in Akshay's performance and more mature control. As Ranjit, who goes from protecting his kin to his countrymen, Akshay does a polished, restrained, powerful job. Nimrat conveys brittle edginess - she asks Ranjit, "Ye Indian-Indian khelna, kya drama ho raha hai?" - but grows into a woman who loves her husband's humanitarian heart.

Certain cameos are outstanding. Prakash Belawadi brings alive surly, suspicious George, Kumud Mishra deeply impresses as a quietly determined MEA babu and Inaamulhuq oozes smooth menace as he quotes 'Amytabh Bachchan' to Ranjit - before showing him his business partner, hanging from a crane outside a palace full of bloodied marble and broken glass.

Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 Movie

Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 Movie
STORY: Kanhaiya (Tusshar) and Rocky (Aftab) are adult stars in Bangkok. They specialise in making porn spoofs of popular Bollywood films. Of course, when Tusshar falls in love with Mandana, whose father is sanskari (traditional), the porn stars have to literally run for cover...

REVIEW: So welcome to the world of Lingham, the adult version of Singham, Lick instead of Kick and Chennai Sexpress, which is louder than Chennai Express. Kanhaiya and Rocky, two friends from Mumbai, join hands with their Bangkok-based friend Mickey (Krushna) who runs a thriving adult film business in the Sin City of Asia to earn their daily bread. And their everyday stuff is making Mughal-E-Orgasm instead of Mughal-E-Azam.

Mickey already has actresses Gizele Thakral and Claudia Ciesla on his roster, 'actors' who are willing to drop their clothes and inhibition because the job demands it. As the boys and girls get spoofy, you find yourself chuckling.

Then, Kanhaiya falls in love. Quite obviously, he doesn't want the girl to know what he does for a living because her father (Darshan Jariwala) is said to be old-fashioned. This one is odd because the girl herself is happily romping around in bikinis. Guess the sanskari father has no view on this!

Act Two begins with the porn stars pretending to be members of a respectable family. However, they cannot hide their true nature and assets. Intermittently, they indulge in atrocities that almost blow their cover. You're deluged with an avalanche of crude jokes, the kind that land on WhatsApp, minute after minute. Frankly, one doesn't assume a high moral ground while watching films like KKHH3 because they thrive on double entendres. And like it is always said, you must see the context. But even boob and bum rides hurt if they're stretched beyond a point.
